Another Etsy Purchase!

I just received my order from Jennifer from Bailygirlsboutique! I ordered some I Spy bags for Punky and Munky for their birthday. I opened up the package last night and couldn't wait for them to go to bed to open it up! They are darling!!! Very well made! My husband and I sat on the couch and played with them for awhile before I wrapped them back up to be hidden away til their party June 1. Seems a long time to wait, hope I don't give in and give it to them early!

Jennifer gave me permission to use some pictures from her shop, so above you can see the style of the ones I bought, Punky got a pink one and Munky got a pirate one. I'm sure they will love it! Here is part of the description for anyone who has not heard of I Spy Bags

A nice surprise!

My friend over at My Ribbon Fix wrote about me in her blog. How nice was that?? It really made my day :) If you've been reading my blog, she is the one who answered my Alchemy request and made a purple key fob for me! She has the neatest ribbon wands! If Punky didn't talk me into inviting her ENTIRE preschool class to her birthday party, I'd have considered purchasing some for party favors, :)

I had so much fun making these! Punky claimed a pink one for her own. I hope to list these in the next couple days.

No Slip Grip

I've been doing some experimenting with different "no slip grip" methods for my items that come on an alligator clip. I have tried several different things and came up with 2 that seem to work the best. So here is at I have to offer :)

1. A line of silicone. Although this one is the most labor intensive and time consuming, it is by far my favorite. It stays put! It would be the best option for all hair types. Even fine hair! (don't be fooled, I've seen some lined with some hot glue, I tried it, it doesn't work well!!)



2. If the hair is super thin as well as fine, and you'd prefer a thicker no slip grip, I can apply a foam rubber strip. It acts more as a "filler" for that thin barely there hair.

Most of my items with an alligator clip will come standard with a silicone no slip grip. I can always add the foam rubber liner if you prefer that option instead! Or if you prefer none at all, I can do that most of the time too! Please read each listing to see what is offered for that item. I am so excited to feature my first Etsy Seller!! I've been admiring Deb's work for awhile now on a website I like to visit and was very excited to see her open up shop on Etsy! Generations Tie Dye is the name of her shop, and can be found here. I would like to introduce her to you through a short interview I had with her. Take a look at her shop for more fabulous items too! Hope you enjoy!

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a musician and music teacher by trade, taught instrumental music in public schools literally until I was in labor with my first, and now I'm a "professional mom" of two energetic girls. I also teach preschool music classes a couple mornings a week and clarinet lessons at home and occasionally volunteer in my older daughter's school.

2. How did you come up with the name of your shop?
I'd been asked to start teaching Music Together in a nearby town and I began filling out an application and needed a name for my Music Together business, and "Generations" is the name I came up with for it. Turns out that I never heard back from the people who wanted me to teach the class, but I liked the name better than anything else I'd come up with for my tie-dye business, so rather than let the name go to waste, here it is on Etsy.

3. What is your favorite item in your shop?
I go back and forth on a "favorite;" sometimes it's "MaterniTEE," sometimes it's anything pink, sometimes it's some of my older things like "Desert Sun" or something different like "Re Dress." I sort of wish I could mix up the order of things in the shop depending on my mood.

4. What’s the first item you remember tie dying?
I remember doing some cute baby stuff for friends who were having babies a few years back. It was kind of fun playing with different colors and designs.

5. What is your inspiration?
I'd have to say that the majority of what passes for inspiration is actually an insane creative drive. Whenever I see plain white cotton clothes my mind automatically starts wondering how to get this or that color combination or pattern, and now I'm playing with denim.

6. What future plans do you have for Generation Tie Dye?
Right now I'm just waiting to see where it takes me and planning to go from there. I just finished a custom order and getting started on another one or two, so that might be one direction to go. I'm also hoping at some point to combine tie-dyeing with clothing recycling and actually use dyed clothes or fabric to make completely new garments or decorating accessories like curtains, pillows, bed linens - sheets and pillowcases - or quilts. Ask me again in 6 months and see where it's gone and where it's headed - might be an entirely different answer by then. :-)

Off Topic ~ Do YOU know CPR?

I just had one of the biggest scares in my life tonight!! My husband, our 2 kids, and I went out to dinner. We were happily eating our appetizer when I looked over at Punky (almost 5yo) and she had a strange look on her face, she turned to me and her face was all red and her mouth was open but no breathing or talking! I asked if she was choking and she could not answer me! I yelled at dh that she was choking and yanked her out of the booth, at this point she was limp. My husband grabbed her and did the hymlich (sp?) it took three thrusts before the chunk of chicken flew out followed by the contents of her stomach! She started breathing and then crying, the best sound I've ever heard! I just hugged her there in the middle of TGIFridays bawling my eyes out! I'm crying now thinking about it! 5 minutes later she was totally fine, eating her meal and acting like her goofy self, I was/am still shaking!

Thankfully my husband takes CPR classes a couple times a year (he works in the saftey and environmental department of his company) and knows what to do. I know how to do it, but it's been years since I've had a refresher. I'm going to sign up for one asap.

I completed the instructions for the Alice inspired ribbon sculpture! 15 pages and over 40 pictures! Check it out in my shop! If you think you want to give it a try, I recommend that you have a general knowledge of bow making terms, tools, supplies, and skills if you want to attempt making ribbon sculptures! If you've been making bows or sculptures in the past, these instructions should be very easy for you to follow. I am always available for email support for anyone who purchases my instructions!

He he he. I can't get that song from my childhood out of my head!! I've been planning this handsome (???) fella ever since I made the bride, just never got around to it! I was stuck on the hair. But I think this looks cute :) He even has a ring to place on his brides finger :)
